Honest Auto Repair
My car just went past the 200,000 mile mark, and it felt like it was shifting roughly. In fact there was a slight lurch with every shift, and a real "thump" for things like the passing gear when high RPM's were involved.
Having decided to invest in the car because it has been so reliable, I took it into Tony's AAMCO, prepared for the worst.
They ran a computer diagnostic, took it for a test ride and reported that indeed, I did have a problem: Motor Mounts. The transmission was fine.
There's a part called the dog bone on top of most engines. It anchors the top of the engine to a structural member, and it keeps the engine from twisting when shifting or accelerating. They suggested I replace it to see if it had any effect on the problem. I said OK, to call me when the part came in.
The call came late that afternoon, they had the part, could I drop by. I went in the next day, the repair took about five minutes, the bill including the part was fifty bucks, and the problem has gone away.
They could have sold me a transmission for thousands, but they didn't. Karma doesn't get any better than that.
